Aside from being a DJ controller (great for Serato, but I use it for Virtual DJ), it's also a standalone mixer with DVS capability, has four switchable channels for internal/external use, as well as a dedicated aux channel that can be switched to a THIRD microphone via TRS. Oh, and it has two mic inputs, they have 3 band eq and can have their gain control adjusted in the parameters of the utility computer mentioned earlier, amongst heaps of other things. I use it to record my sets to my little Zoom recorder. I use the main outs and the booth to achieve this, there's also a separate third output - a 'zone' output, a la Denon's Prime 4 - the parameters of which can be set in the pretty decent internal utility computer. I have a semi-regular bar gig, where the music I play feeds both to my loudspeaker as well as the in-house speakers that is patched from the dining area to XLR inputs in the wall. It's deceptively light, but it's not cheaply made. The mixer section has a metal faceplate the deck sections are plastic, but they're plenty sturdy. I use it for all my gigs, primarily weddings and private events. The Roland 707m is discontinued? News to me, it's still on their website. I basically want a compact or intermediate dual serato/rekordbox controller with proper balanced main/booth outs and plenty buttons for playing with on the fly remixes and stems. The S4 looks pretty good too, but then I’m still locked into a dead ecosystem (Traktor)? But they’re discontinued / everyone warns against Roland DJ controllers? The only one that seems to fit the bill (a denon MC6000 replacement) is the Roland 707m. So I’ve been researching a replacement and, is it me or has the dj controller market gotten worse? Why is pioneer the only option? Why has build quality gotten worse? Why do I need to chose between a controller that only works for Rekordbox or one that uses Serato? I love that it doesn’t waste space with jog wheels, but it’s just too big to cart around to gigs and no one uses traktor anymore. So I bought a Native instruments S8 way back in 2017. I did miss a pad for quick cuepoint selection. Solid build, great sound, perfect size for portability, worked both as a standalone mixer and a DJ controller.
